The artwork above, "Brooklyn & His Mother," is my own interpetation to the young and past life of Brooklyn.

***

In my belief of the Gargoyles History, back when Goliath & His clan lived in Scotland, protecting the castle & the people who then inhabited it there, I began to wonder. Demona had mentioned in an episode that they had "lived on those mountains long before they built their stone fortress...", so I decided to question, how did Brooklyn and the others spend their childhood?

That is where this first piece of a series came about. I created how I believe Brookyln's mother would look. In my creative mind, this was the back story I had come up with while finishing this piece.

*****
Brooklyn was the first hatched out of the rookery of newborns, which also held his rookery brothers Lexington & Broaday. His mother, [whom I've named "Gaia" for now], raised him herself, with Brooklyn's father unfourtunatly out of the picture. He wanted nothing to do with this offspring and was a deserter of the clan. Brookyn in turn inherited his father's looks, but took more traits of his mother's personaltiy, gargoyle skin color, wings and hair. He loved and protected his mother with all his heart ...

Unfourtunatly in my story, Brooklyn ends up losing his mother in a great battle against outsider gargoyles, protecting their home. Leaving him alone and watched over by a young but wise Goliath.

It had also been said that Brookyln's mother held a great love for Goliath, but never spoke of it. [But that story's for a later piece of art ....<3]

I hope you enjoy this piece. I loved making it and coloring it. I have more pieces for this particular series on the way. Until then, enjoy.

Gargoyles raise their young communally...Brooklyn had many mothers besides his biological one.

There's this Brooklyn-esque gargoyle in "Awakenings" (and subsequently, he's in every episode during the theme song) who I always figured was Brook's biological father.

Very Cool pic.

Yea, I know which one your talking about from "AWAKENINGS", and that's definitly always a thought. I guess you can say I wanted to make things a little more personal is all, bring a little more depth although the communally raised thing I understand is more closer to the story of Gargoyles. Thanks for liking the picture thou!
:icongargoylefan22:
*smiles widely* Aw shucks, don't mention it!
:icongryphinwyrm7:
Hey, he could be Brook's biological older Brother too. You never know.

The communal thing...a lot of people interpret that to mean that Gargoyles don't recognize their parents, but that's not true.

Hudson is Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington's father...even though he's only biologically related to Broadway.

Coldstone and Goliath are both "fathers" to Angela, Ophelia, and Gabriel, even though Goliath is only related to Angela and Coldstone is only related to Gabriel.

This communal raising ensures that if someone "ran away from the clan" like your version of Brook's dad...the hatchlings aren't truly fatherless.

That makes a lot of sense, and I was thinking of it in that aspect when I mentioned how easily Brooklyn fell under the care of Goliath right after his mother's untimely death. And true, you never know if he was a brother or father, lol.
:icongryphinwyrm7:
Tiny little catch though...Goliath hatched in the rookery generation before Brooklyn's...when Brook was a hatchling, just out of the egg (let's say two years old, equivalent to a 1 year old human) Goliath was 20...equivalent to a 10 year old human. (gargoyles age at half the rate of humans.)

Interesting thought. LOL. Damn, I never get things right in the way of time. LOL. I was never aware of their aging process, I just always beleived in equivilance to human years, when Lexington, Brooklyn & Broadway grew up, Goliath was roughly between ages of 28-34, my thought of course. That's why I figured a young Brooklyn would be looked after by a young yet older and wiser for his age Goliath. lol. I'll need to read back up on my Gargoyles history.
:icongryphinwyrm7:
If they didn't turn to stone, they would age at the same rate as humans. They don't age in their stone sleep. (That's also why they can live for 1,000 years in stone sleep to wake up in Manhattan)

Gargoyles can only breed every 20 years...Hudson hatched in 878, Goliath hatched in 938, the Trio, in 958. Bronx in 978, and Angela's generation would have hatched in 998 if they hadn't gone to Avalon where time is all wonky...so they hatched in 1038 instead.

The Eggs take ten years to hatch, so they were lain in march of the decade prior to hatching. The females carry the eggs for about six months before they lay them. So they breed in the September of the previous year.

The next hatching year is 2018, and the most recent breeding year was 2007. The eggs lain in march of 2008, will hatch in 2018
